A tribute to
Carmen Amaya
Carmen Amaya Amaya (born between 2 November 1913 and 1915 – 19 November 1963) emerged as a Romani flamenco artist and vocalist from Spain, hailing from the Somorrostro district in Barcelona, Catalonia.
Regarded as the ultimate Flamenco performer of all time and the most exceptional figure in the history of flamenco dance, she is celebrated as the first female flamenco dancer to master footwork that was typically reserved for the most accomplished male dancers due to its rapidity and intensity. As an emblem of her strong personality, she occasionally performed in high-waisted trousers.
